Charla Burns

Dr. Charla Burns is an alumna of Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry. She also holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the UTMB School of Medicine and a diploma from the Campaign School at Yale. Dr. Burns is currently employed as an associate professor of neuropathophysiology at Cummings Graduate Institute of Behavioral Health Studies. Prior to that, she served as an epidemiologist, where she focused her efforts on planning, developing, and implementing field research studies with COVID-19.

Dr. Burns served three consecutive terms on the Ouachita Parish Democratic Executive Committee and is the former North Regional Director of the Young Democrats of Louisiana. In 2016, she was elected as a delegate from the Fifth Congressional District of Louisiana to represent Hillary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention. Dr. Burns has been an integral part of the campaigns for Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, and Joe Biden. Her areas of interest are voter targeting, Get Out the Vote (GOTV), digital campaigns, and grassroots organizing. Dr. Burns is a life insurance broker as well as a notary public. In the community, she serves as a motivational speaker, political activist, and youth mentor.
